The idea for the market began with the closing of La Chalupa Farmers’ Market at Mattie Rhodes in 2014. All of the remaining vendors there agreed that they wanted to continue selling in Northeast KC in the future. With the help and support of Mattie Rhodes, Historic Northeast Events, Cultivate KC, and Lincoln University Cooperative Extension, the road map for creating a new market was designed.
Our goal is to create and maintain a successful, long-lasting farmers’ market in Northeast Kansas City, Missouri. To do this, the market seeks to provide nearby residents with access to fresh, locally grown food, as well as an active, entertaining environment for people of all ages to gather. It’s also important that we make sure the market is well-attended each week, providing vendors with a gainful place to sell their products.
Each Thursday this summer (and hopefully many summers to come!), customers will find a diverse array of fresh food sold by the people who grew or made it themselves. Northeast Farmers’ Market will be a member of Double Up Food Bucks, so customers can spend their EBT/SNAP benefits and have them matched up to $25 (i.e. $25 EBT = $50 Food!).
