  1. You may double SNAP, but at the prices being charged, one does not really save very much. The eggs are usually gone in the first 30 minuets. The Milk is goats milk, no fresh cows milk. Also, not all of the venders honor the chips one obtains when using SNAP.

    1. Hi Mystic Raja,

I received your comment on our website. Thank you for making these notes about our market. I sensed that you may have not been satisfied with your experience there, so I just wanted to respond to the points you made:

“You may double SNAP, but at the prices being charged, one does not save very much.”
Our farmers work hard to grow food themselves, usually without the use of synthetic pesticides or herbicides. Local food grown to organic standards like this is more expensive because it costs more to produce it in such a high quality way. Doubling customers’ SNAP benefits isn’t really meant to save them money, it just gives them the purchasing power to afford local food and pay farmers fair prices.

“The eggs are usually gone in the first 30 minutes. The Milk is goats milk, not fresh cows milk.”
It is true that our vendors may not be able to provide all of the eggs and milk that our community demands. Ours is a brand new farmers’ market with 10 vendors trying to meet the needs of Northeast Kansas City, which has 35,000 residents. In time, I hope that we can attract more egg and milk vendors so that these things don’t run out so quickly. I hope you can bear with us as we go through these growing pains and not abandon us!

“Also, not all of the vendors honor the chips one obtains when using SNAP.”
The U.S. Department of Agriculture does not allow certain items to be purchased with SNAP benefits. This includes non-food items, as well as things like coffee. Since some of our vendors sell things that are not eligible to be purchased with SNAP, it would be a violation of federal law for them to honor those tokens.

Your feedback is greatly appreciated. I hope this addresses some of your concerns about Northeast Farmers’ Market. I’m excited that you took time to try it out and purchase things from our vendors. If you have any other issues, please let me know. If you still aren’t satisfied with our market, I can recommend other farmers’ markets in the area that may be a better fit for you.

      Thanks,
      Jenna Wilkins
